Neroli: Sweet Sunlight
By David Crow, L.Ac.
Neroli is the fragrance of orange trees blossoming under the Moroccan and Tunisian sun. It is the fragrance that greets farmers as they begin another spring day of harvesting, gently plucking the tiny golden gems that shine from inside green citrus foliage. Many factors will influence the quality of the neroli oil: each blossom must be plucked when it is just starting to open; the buds must be gathered only on warm sunny days; the flowers cannot be bruised; leaflets and petioles must not be mixed in. By the end of the day, the clothing and weather-aged hands of the dark-skinned harvesters will be saturated with an intoxicating aroma desired by queens and empresses, sheiks and maharajas.
Neroli is a fragrance that has been known and loved for centuries throughout the Mediterranean region. Generation after generation of skilled distillers have slowly extracted the neroli oil from the tender flowers, creating one of the world’s finest and most sought after perfumes. Every spring, the delectable fragrance of Citrus aurantium blossoms rises inside wood-fired stills in North Africa’s temperate mountains; it is an aroma that will bring joy to all, especially those who have the pleasure of savoring the first few drops that appear in the collecting beaker. Hundreds of pounds of the precious floral treasure, a small mountain of botanical gold, will yield only a tiny vial of exquisite oil. Those engaged in this unique alchemical art know that a special satisfaction is found in producing high quality natural products with healing powers: the happiness of making others happy.
Bees find the fragrance of neroli irresistible. Busily climbing into each sunburst world, they delight in the labor of gathering its essence and transforming it into ambrosial orange blossom honey. Lovers are also rapturously attracted to the sensuous nectar secreted by the yoni-like mandalas of silken petals and the aphrodisiacal euphoria it produces when worn by ones beloved. Neroli was the cheerful fragrance sprinkled in the bedchambers of Arabian princesses of old, and the scent that wafted from scarves of European noble ladies. To this day, it excites and inspires the master perfumers of the great fragrance houses, who use its delicious sweetness in their expensive aromatic creations.
Neroli is a medicine that the soul craves when besieged by stress, anxiety, worry, and depression. Like scented liquid sunlight, the yellow drops of citrus joy uplift the mind from gloomy moods, rescue the heart from realms of sadness and grief, and strengthen the spirit of those enduring unending hardships. Inhaling a few drops of neroli essential oil from the palms has a fortifying effect on the brain and nervous system, while simultaneously pacifying the irritation of sensory over-stimulation. The effects of neroli on emotional well-being can be compared to the nourishing, soothing, and revitalizing effects of Mediterranean sunshine. For those who cannot escape their troubles and flee to a Greek isle or an Italian villa, enveloping oneself in neroli’s blessed aura is the next best thing. Widespread use of neroli could end the daily aggravations caused by the rat race of modern society, especially if used for aromatherapy in cars: scientific research has confirmed that inhaling the oil has an immediate sedative effect on over-caffeinated hyperactive mice.
For some fortunate elders, neroli is the fragrance of childhood in southern California. Only a few short years ago citrus orchards stretched from Santa Barbara to San Diego and from the coast eastward to the edge of the high desert. Every spring the land was awash with neroli’s intoxicating aroma. What were our city planners thinking when they cut down the beautiful cooling trees that give such refreshing fruit and replaced their exotic enchanting perfume with the hot hydrocarbon exhaust of freeways?
Neroli is both the fragrance of paradise lost and the fragrance of hope for the future. Just as we pulled out the green orchards to make room for cars, someday soon we will need to invite the trees back into our communities. When that time comes, as a result of intelligence, wisdom, and foresight, cities will become gardens and urban forests filled with an abundance of nutritious foods and healing herbs. Families will once again wake to the sweet scent of orange blossoms carried on the morning breeze, and neroli’s exotic perfume will be freely available to all.

What are we looking for in a Job Search?
Survival food clothing a home to rest ? I believe that working as a team in Communities , we have better chances to find fulfillment and help each other, and then we find that job where we can use our talents, yet being mindful of what are we willing to do for our health and that of Nature; are we willing to sacrifice Nature Health and our health for an illusion of being happy when…..here we can add all the things that we believe would make us happy….without realizing that we are letting Life pass, Nature ignored….when is fact it is our very deep essential in being happy.Nature as Dr Deepak Chropra once said is the Body of Spirit.
Along the Job search one has to stay close to the Spirit within because it is that connection that makes us be happy, no matter what. Delaying feeling good or peace or serenity until we find that ” perfect ” job is not an option . This is our first Job Self Realization.
How do you get close to Spirit ? Then? many ways exist one is being observant of Nature, two is stop all judgement and three Meditation as Dr. Deepak. Chopra explains in his various books and videos and these ways are all very valid and worth exploring. The Job search then becomes an opportunity to grow as human beings and that is important, therefore try to see that jobless status as a very important moment since you are growing and becoming the best that you can ever be, and once one learns to view that as fulfilling as money or material possessions then one realizes that the material is really the end result , or might not even be material result, there are other results that are invisible yet are very powerful just like salt in food , you cannot see it but it gives taste to the food.
it takes some practice but once you learn the way it’s yours forever.
I encourage you to try some type of Mind Body work that uses breath, physical exercise, contemplation, meditation and to have that opportunity to experience wellbeing along the road. Communion with Nature is as well priority.
Prayer and Devotion as well to Help us feel that no matter what we are already accomplished
because we were born and we had the chance to experience this beautiful Universe, the rest is a journey in progress, with ups and downs but the inner happy being in all of us need to be our major voice among the many that clutter our minds. Many Blessings along the way ! Susanna Iris.

The European Union, today, officially bans all Cosmetic Testing ‘research’ one on Animals!
This is a victory of over 30 years of worldwide petitions and raising of awareness for Humanity; I encourage women, worldwide to actively refuse to use any Cosmetic, that is either
Known or suspected to conduct tests on Animals;
Furthermore , I encourage Women to not wear any product on their skin, that cannot be as pure as food, which means that all chemical cosmetics , are a danger to your skin and inner health.
Europe and the World now need to work on banning all Tests , from Pharmaceutical companies on Animals.
Last month Deepak Chopra started a Meditation Challenge that lasted 21 Days, the theme was Abundance, what it means to us based on culture, personal life and holistic view. One of the most beautiful passages was to learn that according to the teachings of the Vedas “every person is a piece of Gold” and as such a treasure ,one deserves the best;then one realizes that life is not only full of gifts but that those gifts are also Extra-Abundance,in the holistic way of thinking, meaning an overflow of abundance greater than one might expect ,as a super gift from the Universe such as a Sunset or Dawn full of pink light ,a Sky full of shinning stars.Luxury we could say because it is more than the already beautiful sky as it changes everyday ;and yet the Universe does not withhold, on the contrary it makes this luxury available to every being; the difference between abundance and Luxury could be if i understood correct that Luxury is going that extra mile, that extra effort to make something already abundant marvelous, unique enjoyable just for the joy of joy. That Luxury can be available to each one of us and that we can make Luxury available to someone else is a good point of view; many times we are so focused on misery thoughts.
As we cross this Winter Solstice 21.12.2012 and enter in the New Year ahead my wish for all
Is that we stay closer to Nature, with her we are balanced in our views, she is Mother that Loves ,Heals ,inspires and does not deny.Even in the most remote areas of this planet, where famine and hunger exist, it is not the action of Nature, but the misuse of power by men and women.
Imagine noticing the Sacred in all those Acts of Nature we take for granted, then your Life becomes a Life of giving thanks for each instant of Life, for each being ,element that contributes to such miracle!

Things would go well for us if we would think positively about everything. Each of our thoughts are like individual seeds. These thoughts will plant our life garden. Whatever our thoughts, they grow in our gardens. Each day we will process about 50,000 thoughts or thought seeds. Positive thoughts will produce positive results. Have you ever been aware of what you are thinking about during the day? Of the possible 50,000 thoughts in one day – if the positive thoughts were flowers and the negative thoughts were weeds – how would your garden look at the end of the day?_RR (Rachel Roy)
Attitude is a direction which we follow. If you have a positive attitude, it means you will lean towards a positive direction. If you have a negative attitude, it means you will lean away from the Spirit. Therefore, if we lean toward spiritual values, then our actions will become significant and important. If we lean away from spiritual values, our actions will become insignificant or unimportant. For example, if we value love, we will lean towards it; we will prefer to express and embrace it.

“David’s favorite poems were reminders that while we appear to be separate, limited individuals, we are all expressions of an infinite divinity. Here are a few beautiful lines from the poet David called “my beloved Hafiz”:
The Sun Never Says
It lights the whole world.
“As a talented physician and author, loving father, husband, and dear friend, David shared his unique gifts with the world. Through his dedication and authenticity, he helped so many people go beyond their limited perspective of themselves and reconnect to the love, joy, and peace of their true selves.”__DEEPAK CHOPRA
According to ancient philosophers and numerous traditions, dew represents the Universal Spirit in condensed form, and an alchemical elixir of life that appears out of the vastness of the calm, clear, night sky to offer nourishment and regenerative power. This condensed form of universal prana is thought to carry information about the environment and surrounding ecosystem, including influences of the sun and moon, planetary configurations and especially of the plant or flower on which it condenses.
New research is now exploring the possibility that water may have the ability to be imprinted with different patterns of information contained in its environment. In this context, dew can be described as the alchemical mixing of universal, environmental and floral energies taking place within the vessel of the flower or plant: the flower receives and holds the water that appears during condensation of dew which contains the influences of the environment, and imprints it with its own information.
Flowers are the crowning achievement of the plant kingdom, the site of pollination and reproduction, and therefore contain the highly concentrated life-force energies. When dew forms on flowers it is imbued with those energies, which give it unique qualities that can be used for healing purposes.
Historically, dew and its ability to sustain life was of great importance to numerous cultures around the world, including the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Native Americans, Australian aboriginals and the Maori of New Zealand.
To the alchemist, dew is a medium that collects and concentrates moonlight, and a precipitation of the cosmic fire element; it is considered one of the primary sources of the mysterious Niter, the subtle form of the primal fire of nature. Dew is an important ingredient in many alchemical preparations, including elixirs believed to bestow youthfulness and longevity.
During the Middle Ages, the Lady’s Mantle, or Dewcup (Alchemilla), was favored for its extraordinary capacity to collect dew on its lobed leaves. The dew of the Lady’s Mantle was thought to be a special holy water for curing the body, mind and spirit; the Druids considered it one of the most sacred forms of water. Hildegard Von Bingen and Paracelsus both collected dew from flowering plants to treat health imbalances.
It is interesting to note that the Latin word ros means both rose and dew. Some alchemists believed that dew is a kind of grace that gently showers the earth with a special wisdom called aqua sapientiae, the water of wisdom. Some alchemists describe this sanctified shower as a quintessence, or fifth element, that unites with and transcends the other four elements.
To the ancient Chinese, dew symbolized immortality, and was an important part of Taoist philosophy and practice. The Immortals of Taoism were said to be perfected beings who lived on mountains, fed on the wind, sipped the dew, and experienced ecstatic flight. It was believed that dew which formed around temples and at sacred places was especially auspicious.
Saliva is referred to as dew in qigong and Taosit alchemy; practices of accumulating and purifying saliva in the mouth are used to clean the blood, regenerate the marrow in bones and balance energy. The Scripture on the Nourishment of the Vital Principle and the Prolongation of Life, quoting a lost commentary on the Tao Te Ching, gave salvia several names depending on the role it plays or on the various states it assumes: when it flows it is the “flowery lake,” when collected in the mouth it is the “jade beverage,” when used to rinse the mouth it is the “sweet source,” as it descends, it is the “sweet dew.” The resulting “golden beverage” is thought to purify the body and nourish the spirit.
At summer Solstice with its abundant growth and long nights, Baltic traditions celebrated the Festival of Rasa. Rasa, meaning dew, was celebrated as an elemental manifestation of life force that had the ability to predict the size of that year’s bounty according to the abundance of dew on the morning fields. It is believed that dew which forms before the sunrise on Solstice morning possesses exceptional healing powers.
Dew was said to increase beauty, and therefore to enhance the chances of attracting a husband if a woman bathed in it before dawn.
Dew is important in the Jewish religion for agricultural purposes; prayers are often made for dew to come together with rain and bless the land. In esoteric Christian writings, dew is considered an element that facilitates resurrection. Likewise, according to the Rosarium, a 16th century alchemical treatise, dew is thought to purify and renew following death, which may symbolize

we were blessed to have Amma’s visit in Milano! Dharma-
One of the messages that most touched me was that many people come and live this world, without ever finding out why were we here? was there a meaning to our lives? To be aware of our own Dharma is a great grace;to develop the strength to overcome
our Natural impulses that weight us down (to inertia, ignorance of who we really are) and
to realize that The Mind is like water, flows always downwards, and Consciousness is like
fire,it burns upwards; if you throw water to fire, water evaporates upwards! Identified then
with the Pure Consciousness-Water evaporates and flows Upwards! Practically for us,
if we understand that Mind’s Nature, if we are able to view the outside world from the point
of view of (the observer inside of us),one little by little discovers the very nature of objects
outside of us ) and one gets in touch with our own self. What does this mean ? an incredible realization that when one starts to experiment unfolds in infinite possibilities…
Meditation is a valuable practice to start this Exploration. Economy and Our Fears Amma said that ” The greatest gain that one can attain in Life is True Love”,”The greatest Loss is the absence of Love” so this is dimension that signals the True North for us! Grace The Grace of God or (what you consider a higher Loving power) is essential for every
factor that surrounds our actions; The Compassion that we have towards other beings,
returns to us as Grace, Amma said: ” We are All manifestation of the Absolute Self”
“To help and aid whomever needs our help is our Responsibility! “-no longer we can ignore. Blaming God ? Amma said: “When have we thought about God?because God is our real true richness. We take nothing with us material when we depart this world, we are the ones that need God” Treasure Your Precious Life Amma said: “Do not miss your precious human Life, let us not lose the Divine flight that takes us to God” ” There is no difference between Creation and Creator-they are the same awareness! To Love All in equanimity, we are One Soul” these were some of the reflections while Amma continued embracing the World. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om -Om Peace Peace Peace Om

For newly rescued orphans, the first few weeks at the DSWT are filled with milestones aplenty! Little Musiara and his friend were both rescued earlier this year but, being so young and fragile (they're both under six months old), they've been taking things one step at a time. Finally, we felt they were ready to join the larger Nursery group for a wallow — a milestone they certainly felt prepared for, as you can see by their purposeful march down towards the mud baths! Musiara and his friend are not yet ready for fostering, but until they are, you can donate at: ►thedswt.org/donate◄ In the meantime, stay tuned for more photos from the big mud bath event! • • • Video © David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust #DSWT #Musiara #MusiaraDSWT #elephants #whyilovekenya #kenya #nairobi #dswtnursery #ithumba #ithumbareintegrationunit #africa #tsavo #tsavonationalpark #magicalkenya #savetheelephants #nairobinationalpark #saynotopoaching #racingextinction #jointheherd #DSWT40 #worthmorealive
